The Kool Ones is a spot to check out HIPHOP buzz from all around the U.S. Check out local and out of state HIPHOP events and information.Don't miss the latest Urban news and issues as I go on my "World Tour" with D-Oh Ma'Man!
Although it was out with the old, veterans in the arena ruled the year(in the eyes of one of their own).Rick Ross,Eminem,Jay-Z,and The Roots created masterpieces this year that kept my music player rewinding to catch lines and lyrics as intricate as Rah's Lyrics of Fury and as mind boggling as Pun's "Dead in the middle of Little Italy little did we know that we riddled some middleman who didn't do diddily"(Say That Fast).
The industry saw some of hip hops legends pass torches to the heirs to their thrones.Jay-Z and Nas acknowledged that Drake and J-Cole may have the potential to fill the shoes of 2 of NY's most Iconic spitters of the 90's.Lil Kim could have done the same with her secret admirer (Nicky Minaj)but she chose to show the new "B" on the block that even Queen Bees with old honey can still spit sweet.
Cory Gunnz, now with Yung Money was a real son of a Gunn(Peter Gunnz) at an MTV Freestyle session.Rev Run and Ice Cube Passed crowns to there four sons(OMG-Doughboy-Diggy-and JoJo)at the BET Awards Cypher segments that also featured the beginning of Kanye's label birthed from The Roc in the form of G.O.O.D Music.Speaking of GOOD music,The Recession brought out that "deepness" that was lost at one point in the rap game.Peep these new artist to learn exactly what I'm Talking about.
The way these last new artists(Reveal-All-Pain) they must have studied the old and took notes of what R.A.P. stood for since the beginning of its creation. That goes to show that even when its out with the old G.O.O.D. music lives on in the new.
As one of the top selling album's going into the month of August,Teflon Don (In my most humblest opinion)is by far one of the best Hip Hop albums I've heard in a long time.Rick Ross in Masonic Fashion built a classic with.."No Catapillar's...It was just a lot of Niggaz".Some Top Architects were:
* Jay-Z/The Inkredibles-produced Freemason * Cee-lo Green/NO.I.D.-produced Tears of Joy * Drake and Chrisette Michele/J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League produced Aston Martin Music * Kanye West/Kanye and NO.I.D produced Live Fast Die Young
With many more great Emcee's,Song Writers, and Producers helping to build this meticulously fashioned masterpiece,I'm sure most of my Hip Hop Heads can find at least one of their favorite Artists and/or Producers on a song "THAT BANGS!".Its a definate Classic...BUT!...Is it Album Of The Year material.. give your opinion now and influence others to Peep your Deepness!
R.I.P. To A D.C. Legend Anthony (Lil Benny)Harley
Anthony Harley better Known in the Go-Go scene as Lil Benny has passed away in his sleep at age 46. From a historical standpoint,Little Benny stands out as one of the founding fathers of go-go.Rare Essence (with Benny as an integral part of R.E. during that time) laid a lot of the Go-Go structure that has emerged in the D.C. area.Lil Benny was a Go-Go Hall of Famer.A man with a powerful voice who led the band's vocals on fast-paced songs and could play two trumpets at once.Mr. Harley left Rare Essence in the mid-1980s and formed Little Benny and the Masters. Among his most popular songs were "Cat in the Hat" and "Who Comes to Boogie." While Chuck Brown was on tour absent from the D.C. scene,Lil Benny and his band was being the hardest working band in the go-go biz. They performed up to six times a week at venues in and around Washington D.C., continuing to shape go-go into a style of funk that is still identified as the defining sound of the nation's capital. PEACEFUL JOURNEY TO A GO-GO LEGEND- Anthony (Lil Benny)Harley (Sunrise-1963-Sunset-2010)

Michael Jackson "This Is Why He's BAd" Michael Jackson has put his stamp on the entertainment industry as one of the greatest dance artist of all times. Many singer's and even rapper's have tried to dethrown the true King Of Pop,but none could really match his fancy footwork.During his days with The Jackson5 Michael was a "Dance Machine. MJ's moves were so advanced that as a youth he had adults mezmorized by his ability to "Pop and Lock"his body in a manner similar to a robot. Those moves inspired me as a teen to start poppin' and breakdancing. Micheal was creating and performing creative dance moves so astonishing that he had one patented . His famous Anti-gravity lean For Smooth Criminal was granted U.S. Patent No. 5,255,452.The secret behind his Anti-gravity Lean was notches in his shoes that fit over metal bars inside the floor allowing the dancers wearing them to "lean" at an angle that seemingly was breaking normal laws of gravity. Michael danced extraordinary until he passed at age 50 from an accidental overdose. From The Dance Machine,To The Moonwalker,And as a Smooth Criminal Michael's moves were awe inspiring. With ingenuity and a tenacious drive for perfection Michael surpassed the title of star, and now exists as an Iconic Legend. Jay-Z Dissin' Christ(8million stories) First and foremost I'd like to stress the importance of studying an artists lyrics. Lots of times people go out and get music not realizing the derogatory remarks laced throughout the material. I remember playing Public Enemy with my white friends who would say wow thats dope, even though P.E. was a very anti-white group.
I saw a few Youtube videos of christians talking about Jay-Z's verses in Empire State of Mind. Some feel as though he is dissin' Christ with some of the verses.Lets analyze.First lets check out the "if Jesus paying Lebron I'm paying Dewayne Wade" verse.I think this verse was more on the note of if Jeezy's paying Lebron because of the Lebron/Kobe joint Jeezy did.The next verse is much harder to "explain away".Jesus can't save you life begins when the church ends.In this verse Jay-Z blatantly says Jesus (THE SAVIOR) CAN'T SAVE YOU.With that,IT IS....WHAT IT IS..BLASPHEMY.But if you look throughout the song at the situations he talk about he could be speaking in regard to how people go to church and start"living in the world" when the church ends.In my opinion)Salvation comes after repentence and if life begins when the church ends...where is the repentance?Maybe by checking his past you can get an insight into the lyrics. His verse in Can I Get Open
with Original Flavor shows some blasphemy. He says, and I quote"I pick up the peices and straighten'em out like Pete Rock and C is or cresis","YOUR CHOICE"...NOT MY CHOICE....."YOUR CHOICE"...JESUS CHRIST..I'M NICE LIKE THAT(POSSIBLY NICE AS JESUS).I think he (j-hova)does have a "GOD COMPLEX",but I also see truth in what he is sayin if you match the situations he is speaking on to the fact that a lot of Us "People" SAVED and/or UNSAVED can see that New York has always been seen as the belly of "The Beast" or the modern day version of BABYLON.No one but Shawn Carter knows the true perspective of what his verses were meaning, and if you asked 8 million people about the lyrics you may get 8 million different perspectives.
8 million stories--out there in the naked--city its a pity half of yawl won't make it. Article created by:Keith(The Koolone)Turner For Itzyourz Radio
